Pickup collides with bus in Fridley; 2 injured

A pickup truck and a Metro Transit bus crashed in Fridley this morning, just as the bus was starting its route 10 trip, said Metro Transit spokesman John Siqveland.

According to preliminary information, only the bus driver was on board and two people who were in the truck were taken to a hospital, complaining of possible neck and back injuries with unknown injuries, said Siqveland. The bus driver was later transported to the hospital for evaluation.

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of University Avenue NE and 53rd Avenue NE. The bus was turning left from University Avenue NE onto 53rd Avenue NE when it crashed with the pickup truck, according to Siqveland.

The bus appears to be drivable, he said. A tow truck was on the scene to remove the truck. Metro Transit Police and Fridley Police responded to the crash, Siqveland said. Fridley Police Department is leading the investigation, and cited the pickup truck driver for failure to stop for a traffic device.
