Marquette University and a philosophy professor are the recipients of a $2.6 million grant to study the development of human virtue and character.
The three-year grant comes from the Templeton Religion Trust, a foundation which awards grants to study of character development, religion and science.
Dr. Nancy Snow will lead the research initiative with help from a psychology professor at the University of Notre Dame.
Snow says the project will study how individuals develop virtue in their lives and how it's practically used in education and other areas. It's hoped the research will help in countering societal issues, such as bullying.
Snow says the ultimate goal is to "generate an appreciation of what virtue is" and how it can be cultivated."
