Longtime DFL State Rep. Phyllis Kahn will seek to fight off an endorsement challenge today from Minneapolis School Board member Mohamud Noor.
Noor wants to become the first Somali-American member of the Minnesota Legislature. He says he could do a better job than Kahn of representing University of Minnesota students and members of the east African community who live in the east Minneapolis district.

Kahn was was first elected in 1972. She said she has a better understanding of the legislative district she represents than Noor does.
Kahn has faced numerous challenges over the years from members of her own party but says she's never worked harder to shore up support. She's confident she will win the endorsement, she said.
"I have done very good work for the district, the state and even sometimes the country, and I think I will continue to do that and I think I should be kept on," she said.
