Free stuff all May for museums month

Next month a lot of museums around the state are offering all types offering special events and programs, many for free, during May. The aim is to raise awareness about Minnesota museums.

The May offerings include:

Free admission for children with a paying adult at the Minnesota History Center, Mill City Museum, and Science Museum of Minnesota. At the Science Museum, only one free child admission with each paid adult.

Free admission for moms on Mother's Day, May 11: Minnesota History Center, Mill City Museum, American Swedish Institute, and Minnesota Zoo (May 10 and 11 at the zoo)

Free admission on May 31 and June 1 at six history museums in Red Wing: Goodhue County Historical Society, Red Wing Shoe Company Museum, Red Wing Pottery Museum, Red Wing Marine Museum, American Ski Jumping Hall of Fame and Museum, and Aliveo Military Museum for the museums' Red Wing Museum Crawl. All museums will mount exhibits related to the Phil Revoir Collection of vintage photos of the Red Wing area.

Free gallery admission at Walker Art Center May 18 for International Art Museum Day.

Free admission at the American Swedish Institute May 18 for its "Summer Kick-off Bike-In Picnic"

The Landing --- Minnesota River Heritage Park in Shakopee will host Civil War Weekend May 3 and 4

Twin City Model Railroad Museum will hold special events May 10 for National Train Day.
