Truck, light rail train collide on University Ave.

A pickup truck and a Green Line light rail train on a test run collided in St. Paul on Saturday.

Just after noon the truck violated a red turn arrow from University Avenue and turned into the path of a west-bound test train, said Metro Transit spokesman John Siqveland.

"There were no injuries in the incident. The driver did drive his truck from the scene and received a citation from Metro Transit police for failure to obey the traffic device. The train also departed under its own power, appears to have minor damage only. The scene was cleared after about 20 minutes," he said.

Siqveland says there was another minor collision between a van and test train on April 30. The Green Line test trains will continue running between St. Paul and Minneapolis. Passenger service is scheduled to begin on June 14.
