A new transit hub opened in downtown Minneapolis Saturday in the shadow of the Twins ballpark.

Target Field Station will bring together bus service, the Northstar commuter rail line and Hiawatha light rail. Next month trains on the new Green Line between downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis will also stop at the station.

The $85 million  facility also features an outdoor amphitheater for public events.

"We've created a place where people can come together and celebrate," said Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin. "There will be outdoor activities here that can happen 365 days a year.  We think it's adding to the attractiveness of Hennepin County and Minneapolis for people to live and invest."

Transit officials say the proposed Southwest and Bottineau transit lines will be routed into the station if they're built in the future.
