The North Dakota Department of Health says approximately 690 barrels of crude oil have leaked from an underground pipeline at an oil gathering site.
The Department says the spill occurred at a well site about 14 miles northeast of New Town. The pipeline is owned by Bridger Pipeline.
Kris Roberts of the Department's Environmental Health Section says the company a perimeter dike at the well site that prevented most of the oil from escaping.
Roberts says the leak was discovered Friday around 2:30 in the afternoon. The company reported the spill to the state shortly before 3 p.m.
About 640 barrels had been recovered so far as of Saturday morning.
Roberts says the company hasn't determined how the leak came about yet, but will examine the pipeline Saturday.
