Hennepin County to stop honoring immigration holds

Hennepin County is changing a policy at its jail that will affect some immigrants who are detained.
Sheriff Rich Stanek said Wednesday the county no longer will honor hold requests from federal immigration officials without a court order. The requests are to hold a detainee for an additional two days after the local charge is settled.
The ACLU considers that illegal detention and has asked all Minnesota counties to stop the practice. Hennepin is the first.
