Police: Fatal shooting in Minneapolis not random

A shooting that killed one man and injured another in north Minneapolis Sunday was not a random act, according to Scott Seroka, Minneapolis Police Department spokesman.

"We believe the suspect and the victims knew each other," he said. "Anything further than that is what we're out there trying to figure out right now."

The 24-year-old man died after being taken to North Memorial Medical Center. The other victim, a 27-year-old man is expected to survive and was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. Police have not released the victims' names.

Police were called to the 2700 block of Girard Avenue North around 4:15 p.m. Sunday for shots fired and "shot spotter activation."

Police have a system where they have placed sensors or spotters in certain areas of the city that pick up sounds of gunshots. Those sensors picked up the sound and police were notified within seconds.

Police do not have any suspects in custody. They ask anyone with information to call the department at 612-692-TIPS (8477). Homicide investigators are working on the case.
