Target: Register delays unrelated to data breach

By MPR News Staff -- Target is apologizing for a glitch in its system Sunday that caused cash register delays at some U.S. stores. But the company says the delays were not related to any data security issue.

The company has not explained what caused the problems, nor detail how many stores or customers were affected by the system problem.

Target's massive holiday season data breach, together with its financial struggles expanding into Canada, cost Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel his job.

Target officials say hackers grabbed the personal information of 70 million customers, including their names, phone numbers and email and mailing addresses in that data breach.
