SD man charged in death of Minnesota bicyclist

A 25-year-old South Dakota man is charged with criminal vehicular homicide in a crash that killed a Steen woman who was bicycling with her two daughters.

Authorities believe Christopher Weber of Madison, South Dakota, was distracted by his cellphone.

Thirty-three-year-old Andrea Boeve was biking with her young daughters along Highway 270 when she was struck and killed by a pickup that drifted onto the shoulder.

The Minnesota State Patrol says Weber's pickup crossed the white line and hit Boeve, who was legally riding on the side of the road.

Boeve was pulling her daughters, ages 1 and 4, in a passenger trailer. The Argus Leader reports the 4-year-old suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung, and the 1-year-old had minor injuries.

Weber makes his first court appearance Wednesday.
