Today's Morning Edition music is from Prince with "Baby I'm a Star," from the film "Purple Rain," which opened in theaters 30 years ago today. The movie and hugely popular soundtrack album turned Prince into an international superstar.

Of course, it was filmed in and around Minneapolis with many scenes at the First Avenue nightclub. Morning Edition producer Jim Bickal spoke with Trudy Frederick who worked on the crew during the movie about her memories of that experience.

One tidbit: some of the bartenders called Prince "Purple Pain."
