"Pop Till We Drop" is a new podcast from MPR News in which three 20-somethings and fellow University of Minnesota graduates playfully examine their lives in a pop culture-obsessed world.

The podcast features Tess Weinberg, marketing manager for KOKOON; Shelby Thomason, front of house manager for the Soap Factory; and Alex Gaterud, marketing associate at Fast Horse.

In this debut episode: Summer is almost in the rear view mirror, winter dread is building, and Gaterud is out of ideas on things to do. So he turns to his "Pop 'Til We Drop" compatriots for tips on how to rev up the final days of summer, and prepare for the cold, dark months.

Also, Thomason confides that this has been the summer of break-ups in her social circle, which triggers a discussion of the merits and awkwardness of the popular matchmaking mobile app, Tinder.

And all three celebrate Minneapolis rapper and performer "Lizzo," who's taken the local music scene by storm. Lizzo has also made Gaterud even more aware of the preponderance of "dude music" in the Twin Cities.
