MNnext is a podcast that explores and reflects the world Minnesota millennials are inheriting. Host Maddy Mahon picks the most knowledgeable brains about what's ahead for our state, from the economy, education and the environment, to recreation and lifestyle. We'll also hear from millennials themselves about their hopes, fears, and experiences.

In this debut episode, we'll launch our interview series with former state demographer Tom Gillaspy. In the first of several conversations, Mahon and Gillaspy discuss the changing expectations and buying patterns of millennials regarding housing.

Members of Generation Y are flocking back to the city, drawn by transportation and entertainment options and other amenities of urban living. They're more likely to be renters than home buyers. What does this mean for the housing market and how the Twin Cities metro area will develop in the future?
