A Minneapolis-based coalition is threatening to sue the Warroad, Minn., school district if it doesn't stop using the image of a Native American for its school mascot.
In an email to district officials, the National Coalition Against Racism in Sports and Media warns that if the district does not announce changes in 30 days the coalition will take the case to federal court.
The coalition claims that the district's use of a Native American image is discriminatory and violates the U.S. Civil Rights act of 1964.
"When you attach the word 'warriors' to the image of American Indian people that's where it becomes not only a problem but it becomes illegal," said Alan Yelsey, a member of the coalition's board.
