In this installment, women and the threat of stroke.

Host Tom Crann and Dr. Jon Hallberg discuss new guidelines designed to help women more carefully monitor their risk of stroke, which is slightly higher than men.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death among American women.

One of the reasons is that women tend to live longer than men, and therefore will have more strokes. Also the hormone estrogen, in birth control pills or in hormone replacement therapy, can cause blood to clot more readily. And, high blood pressure can be a contributing factor.

Dr. Hallberg runs through the warning signs of strokes and what women can do to reduce their risk.
