This week on Roaming and Reading we travel to Greenwood, Mississippi with Jamie Kornegay. He is the owner of the independent bookstore Turnrow Book Co. located in the Mississippi Delta, and is coming out with his debut novel, "Soil."
As he says, "Mississippi is a foreign culture." Situated between the Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers, TurnRow Books Company is an important part of the cultural landscape in the Delta, which is famously known as the birthplace of blues music, a Civil Rights landmark, and an inspiration to the likes of William Faulkner and Eudora Welty.
"Soil" follows an environmental scientist, Jay Mize, and his family in an effort to establish a sustainable farm in the Mississippi hills.
Jamie joins The Daily Circuit to discuss literature coming out of the Mississippi Delta.
