To spread your bookish cheer this year, why not build a book tree? Book trees can be a bibliophile's dream, or a Pinterest project gone horribly wrong.
Just remember: beauty is in the eye of the book holder.
1. Decide how big you'd like your tree to be
Are you going for a table-topper or a 6-footer? Depending on the size of your book collection, the sky (or the ceiling) is the limit.

2. Arrange your books by size
You'll need a variety to get that classic tree shape. Hefty tomes are best suited for the base; light reading goes on top.
3. Start with a triangular base
Keep stacking, rotating the books in each layer for a branched-out effect. For stability, make sure each layer is about the same height.
4. Thin the layers as you go
The top few rows will be just one book each.
5. Pick out a book tree topper
Which of your books will get the top spot?
(And, more importantly, which can balance there?)
6. String up the lights
Optional. Your books may be illuminating enough on their own.
