Deadline for MNsure coverage is noon Wednesday

Minnesotans have until noon Wednesday to sign up for coverage effective Jan. 1 through the state's health insurance exchange.
MNsure officials have pushed back that deadline several times in recent weeks to give consumers more time to pick a plan.
CEO Scott Leitz says those who enroll up to the deadline will be covered starting Thursday even though they won't necessarily have their insurance cards for a while. Leitz says that as long as enrollees pay their bill once it arrives, their coverage will be effective starting Thursday.
The health plans are urging new enrollees to contact them if they need care before their insurance ID cards arrives. Leitz says in some cases people might have to pay for health care up front and then be reimbursed by their plan.
Open enrollment lasts through Feb. 15. Lower-income Minnesotans eligible for the public MinnesotaCare and Medical Assistance programs can enroll year-round.
As of Friday, roughly 59,000 Minnesotans had signed up for coverage through MNsure since open enrollment began Nov. 15. That includes more than 26,000 private plan signups.
