Today's Morning Edition music is from 50 years ago today, when the No. 1 song on the pop charts was " I Feel Fine" by the Beatles.

It was the sixth song by the Beatles to reach the top of the U.S. pop chart.

During the recording session, John Lennon leaned his electrified acoustic guitar against an amplifier, which caused audio feedback. The band members liked the sound and asked producer George Martin to incorporate it into the song. He suggested putting at the beginning of "I Feel Fine."

Lennon proudly proclaimed that it was the first intentional use of feedback in a studio recording.
