The wind chill factor at the airport in Grand Marais plunged to minus 54 degrees Wednesday morning, the coldest of the winter so far.
The bitter-cold forecast prompted schools in Minneapolis and the Anoka-Hennepin school districts to close. Other districts -- including Brooklyn Center, Rochester, Monticello, and Big Lake -- also told kids to stay home.
Minus 54 degrees is cold enough to freeze exposed skin in as little as two minutes. But it gets cold every January, right?
