St. Paul officials plan to discuss whether to reopen an area of a city park where a landslide killed two children in 2013.

Geologist disputes St. Paul's conclusion in deadly landslide

 city staff will brief council members on Wednesday on a $152,000 study from Minneapolis-based Barr Engineering, which recommends whether to allow public access to the 50-acre site in Lilydale Regional Park.


Nine-year-old Haysem Sani and 10-year-old Mohamed Fofana died and two other children were injured in May 2013. They were part of a fossil-hunting field trip with their St. Louis Park elementary school.


The city later agreed to a record $1 million settlement, which was split among the families of Sani, Fofana and one of the injured boys.


Barr's final recommendations will be released Wednesday. The park is 384 acres.
