Today's Morning Edition music is from "Argentina" by the Clark Terry Quartet with Thelonious Monk.

We learned over the weekend that Terry died. He was 94.

Terry was considered one of jazz music's greatest trumpeters. He played in big bands led by Count Basie and Duke Ellington and later became the first African-American to join the "Tonight Show" band.

On this recording from 1958, Terry was one of the first to demonstrate that the flugelhorn could be the lead voice in a jazz group.
