Hemp research bill advancing at the Capitol

A bill that would allow for expanded research on hemp in Minnesota is advancing through the House and Senate.

As it stands, research on the plant is tightly regulated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with George Weiblen, a plant biology professor at the University of Minnesota. He's one of the few researchers in the country with federal permission to study hemp.
