Minnesotans across much of northern Minnesota and the metro area will be allowed to burn vegetation with a permit. 


The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said Thursday it has 

 in those regions because rain and green-up have lessened the fire danger.


The DNR said people should still check with their local governments about any specific regulations that affect burning.  Permits are available through state and federal forestry offices, from local fire wardens or online by paying a $5 fee per calendar year. 


The DNR recommends Minnesotans keep burn piles small, keep a water supply nearby and stay with the fire until it is completely out.


If fire escapes, the person who started the fire is responsible for the damage and suppression costs, officials warned.
