Chuck Berry recorded the influential 'Maybellene' 60 years ago

Today's Morning Edition music is, in part, from the song "Maybellene" by Chuck Berry, which was recorded 60 years ago Thursday.

It was Berry's first single and first hit.

Rolling Stone magazine described its influence when it wrote "rock and roll guitar starts here."

It was adapted from the country song "Ida Red." Berry said that in the early days "Ida Red" was a good tune to play when he performed for an integrated audience.
