Dr. Seth Hawkins of St. Paul, Minn. has seen 21 of the 29 3,000th hit club members achieve that baseball milestone. Hawkins, who goes by Dr. Fan, has been doing this since 1970 when he witnessed Hank Aaron get his 3,000th hit.

It's not every day a baseball player enters the "3,000 hit club." But when he does, Dr. Fan will be there.

Dr. Seth Hawkins — or "Dr. Fan" as he likes to call himself — is on a mission to be there for each moment a player gets his 3,000th hit.

There are 29 players who have reached 3,000 hits in Major League Baseball history and Hawkins has been present for the last 21.

Hawkins, a retired professor and lifelong baseball aficionado, spoke with MPR News' Steven John on the details of his hobby and watching New York Yankees player Alex Rodriguez, the club's newest member, achieve the milestone.
