40 years ago: 'The Hustle' tops the charts

Today's Morning Edition music features one of the most popular songs of the disco era, which dominated the 1970s.

"The Hustle" was the No. 1 song 40 years ago. It's from Van McCoy and the Soul City Symphony.

McCoy composed the song after a music partner watched people do a dance known as "The Hustle" in a New York City night club. The song sold more than one million copies and won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
