UND professor arrested, charged with child porn possession

A faculty chairman at the University of North Dakota is facing child pornography charges after authorities raided his home this week.

Fifty-five-year-old Robert Beattie has been charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography. All counts are class C felonies.

Authorities say they raided Beattie's home in Grand Forks on Thursday. Police say they found evidence of child pornography being received and distributed.

Beattie chairs the Family and Community Medicine Department at the university's School of Medicine. Officials say he's been put on administrative leave.

A message left with Beattie's attorney was not immediately returned on Friday.

A preliminary hearing has been set for Sept. 11.
