UCare has filed a lawsuit against the Minnesota Department of Human Services over the loss of the bulk of the insurance company's Medicaid and MinnesotaCare business.
The department shocked UCare late last month when it announced that other health insurance companies would be picking up 370,000 of its public program clients in 2016.
DHS claimed it made the decision based on a review of competitive bidding submissions that measured things such as access to care, quality and cost.
UCare argued that moving so many people to other plans would be disruptive. The company said losing that many clients would amount to a 70 percent reduction in its customers, which would result in significant layoffs.
The company has also appealed to Gov. Mark Dayton to intervene on its behalf.
