The Federal Reserve's Open Market Committee begins its two-day meeting today.

At the end of the meeting, the Fed could announce that it's raising interest rates for the first time in nine years.

That decision is getting an unusual amount of attention from politicians. Many progressives, in particular, are pressuring the Fed to wait for a better economic climate to emerge before raising interest rates.

MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke with Minnesota DFL Rep. Keith Ellison, who's asking the Fed to wait. Ellison sits on the House Financial Services Committee.
