It's finally peak fall color season in central and southern Minnesota. Sadly, much of northern Minnesota is past its peak.

The DNR's interactive color finder map is based on observations from all 75 of Minnesota's state parks and recreation areas. Here are the top picks for spotting fall colors this week:

Wild River State Park: The best places to go leaf peeping is at the visitors center and campground. And it's never too early to go trick-or-treating, right? Campers can decorate their site and participate in the All-Camp Trick or Treat. Participating campsites will be identified with pumpkin site tags.

Lake Shetek State Park: Prairie grasses are still showing off vibrant orange, golden yellow and deep red colors. Visitors can also hit up the pumpkin festival on Saturday, which runs from 1-4 p.m. It will feature a leaf pile hunt, hay rides and pumpkin decorating.

Great River Bluffs State Park: Now is the time to visit -- the maples are golden, sumac is bright red and ash is yellow, the DNR says.

Jay Cooke State Park is also celebrating its 100th birthday on Sunday. From 1-2 p.m., visitors can attend a photo and video presentation looking back at the past century.
