Several hundred mourners gathered Saturday for a funeral for three children killed in a house fire in Minneapolis on Oct. 3.

The service was held at Spiritual Church of God in Robbinsdale for the children, Latorious, 6, Latoria, 5, and Latorianna Thomas, 1.

Several speakers urged compassion for the children's mother, Taneisha Stewart. Investigators have said Stewart probably wasn't home when the late-night fire broke out.

Civil rights activist Spike Moss told mourners to reach out to Stewart.

"None of you will carry the burden that she will carry for the rest of her life. Have more understanding. Have more caring. Have more love. Help her understand what just happened. Help her understand she's still part of this human family and she's still part of this north side," he said.

Authorities have said the fire may have been caused by an oven turned on to heat up the house.
