A St. Paul woman has been charged with second-degree murder after her 5-week-old son was found dead in the car she crashed.
Shwe Htoo, 22, is accused of crashing her car into a light pole at about 11 a.m. Wednesday near Como Regional Park in St. Paul. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found her infant son, Michael Kyaw Htoo, unresponsive and launched a death investigation, determining his cause of death was asphyxiation.
According to court records, Htoo told officers she tried to poison herself and the baby the night before. She said she suffocated him when the poisoned formula didn't work and then intentionally crashed her car.
Htoo is being held at the Ramsey County Jail. It wasn't immediately known whether she has an attorney.
