A 23-year-old man was charged Friday with second-degree murder in the death of a man whose body was found in a car fire nearly a week ago. Ramsey County officials say Demetrius Smoot shot and killed another man during a drug deal.
Officials found the body early last Sunday when they were called to a "suspicious" fire on Westminster Street, just east of Interstate 35-E, about a mile-and-a-half north of downtown St. Paul. An autopsy determined the cause of death.
