Today's Morning Edition music feature is "Norwegian Wood" by The Beatles. The song is from "Rubber Soul," which was released in the United Kingdom 50 years ago today.

The American version of "Rubber Soul" was released three days after its U.K. debut and includes a slightly different song list.

Paul McCartney has said the album's name was derived from a phrase he heard an American blues singer use to describe Mick Jagger's music. He called it "plastic soul."

The album has continued to earn accolades over the years. Rolling Stone magazine named "Rubber Soul" as the fifth greatest album of all time in 2012.
