The bicyclist hit and killed by a light rail train Friday morning has been identified as a 29-year-old Minneapolis resident.
Jason Michael McCormick was hit by the train Friday near the intersection of 46th Street and Hiawatha Avenue in Minneapolis shortly after 6:30 a.m. McCormick was brought to Hennepin County Medical Center where he was declared dead shortly after 7:30 a.m., according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
A Metro Transit official has said that McCormick appears to have biked past the train warning signals when he was hit by the Blue Line train.
A report released Saturday by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office identified McCormick and described the incident as an "accident." The Metro Transit Police Department is investigating.
McCormick was the second person in two days to be hit and killed by a light rail train in the Twin Cities. Nurto Abdi Aden, 67, was hit and killed as she crossed the Green Line tracks near the intersection of University and Hamline avenues on Thursday.
