The "breakfast of champions" has a new face — and he hails from Belle Plaine, Minn.
Ryan Dungey is the first motocross rider to ever grace the front of the Wheaties box. The 26-year-old is now part of an elite cereal club that includes Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Muhammad Ali and more.
Being pictured on the Wheaties box has been an iconic achievement for athletes since the 1930s. Baseball legend Lou Gehrig was the first player featured, though his picture went on the back of the box. Wheaties began featuring athletes on the front of the box in 1958, when pole vaulter and decathlete Bob Richards earned the top spot.
Dungey has been racing professionally since 2006. According to Wheaties, he won every major title the sport had to offer by the time he was 21.
"It's definitely a very exciting moment, getting to be on the Wheaties box. I can't tell you how many times my brother and I sat there joking about, you know, one day that's going to be me on the box," Dungey said in a press release.
"To be the first Motocross racer on the box is definitely an amazing moment. I think it's huge for all of us, so I'm very, very thankful."
