Metro Transit: Damaged power line sparked light rail woes

A damaged power line at a Minneapolis light rail station led to a day of hassles and delays Wednesday for some Twin Cities light rail riders.

Metro Transit officials said service was disrupted "after an overhead contact wire that supplies power to the trains was damaged this morning at Downtown East Station and we had to suspend service in order for crews to make repairs."

Transit officials were forced to run buses between some Blue Line and Green Line light rail stations while repairs were made. Trains on both lines were back running on regular schedules by mid-afternoon, the agency said.
