Three film buffs joined MPR host Kerri Miller and MPR producer and Movie Maven Stephanie Curtis to talk about why the actors and films up for Academy Awards this year are so white, despite some strong performances from African-Americans in particular.

The guests were local film critic and Twin Cities Film Festival organizer Kathie Smith; Star Tribune film critic and arts editor Tom Horgen; and NPR television critic Eric Deggans.
