1 dead in south Mpls. house fire
One person is dead following a Sunday morning house fire in south Minneapolis.
Brian Tyner, assistant chief for the Minneapolis Fire Department, said crews were called to a home in the 2900 block of 40th Avenue South shortly after 4:30 a.m.
"When crews arrived, there was fire showing from the second floor, and it was already burning through the roof," he said.
During a search of the home, crews found the body of an adult on the second floor. Tyner said the still-unidentified victim was the only person inside the residence at the time.
Investigators are still trying to determine a cause, but Tyner said there's nothing yet that indicates the fire was suspicious.
Authorities said it's the first fire fatality of the year in Minneapolis.
