The Minneapolis Police Department's SWAT team is getting new uniforms following citizen concerns that its current clothing is too militarized.
The 60 men and women on the tactical unit will be trading Army green and camouflage uniforms for the more traditional law enforcement navy blue.
Commander Scott Gerlicher tells KSTP-TV that a color change is a relatively simple thing to do to make a difference in public perception. Gerlicher says the SWAT team isn't associated with the military and doesn't train with the military. He says the new uniforms will cost under $50,000 and will roll out over the next two years.
