A man accused of dealing large quantities of methamphetamine in North Dakota and Minnesota has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison.
Arnulfo Ramos, of Crookston, Minnesota, pleaded guilty in December to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Authorities say the drug ring involved more than 500 grams of meth.
The 43-year-old Ramos was arrested on April 2, 2015, after a traffic stop in Minneapolis.
Defense attorney Jennifer Braun says Ramos had a difficult upbringing in which he was shuttled between Texas and Mexico and began using drugs at a young age. Braun says Ramos "feels that he simply too old and tired of the drug life" and plans on pursuing drug treatment and completing his GED in prison.
