A grand jury in Ramsey County has strengthened charges against a St. Paul man accused of fatally shooting a law clerk.
Ryan Petersen is now facing charges of premeditated first-degree murder, intentional second-degree murder and illegally possessing a gun. Petersen had previously been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 23-year-old Chase Passauer.
The clerk was working at a law firm in St. Paul's Cathedral Hill neighborhood last month when he was shot a half-dozen times. Authorities say Petersen was unhappy with how a lawyer at the firm was handling a previous case.
The 37-year-old defendant is being held on $1.5 million bail.
