The interstate was closed soon after and traffic was diverted onto westbound Interstate 394 and the Hennepin and Lyndale avenues exits. All lanes of the interstate were reopened by 12:30 p.m.

Nielson said troopers are investigating the crash.

"We don't have an age or a name yet," Nielson said. "We're going to be doing a crash reconstruction, then obviously trying to identify family members to notify of this person that was killed."

No other information was immediately available about the incident.

Three other people died in car crashes in the metro area on Tuesday, including one death on the Mendota Bridge in Dakota County and two deaths in a crash on Snelling Avenue in St. Paul.
