Today's Morning Edition music is from "Monday, Monday" by the Mamas and the Papas which was No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart 50 years ago today.

Despite its success, the song was universally disliked by members of the group. Denny Doherty, who sings lead, called it a "dumb song about a day of the week." John Phillips, who wrote it, claimed he had no idea what the song meant.

It was the Mamas and the Papas only No. 1 hit.
