MPR news correspondent Doualy Xaykaothao, on the Hmong-American experience

MPR News correspondent Doualy Xaykaothao recently visited Wausau, Wisconsin to see what life is like there for Hmong immigrants and their children, decades after the Hmong fought for the U.S. in Laos and arrived as refugees in Wisconsin.

It was a return trip for her, after living briefly in Wausau to intern at a newspaper there early in her career.

She joined Tom Weber to talk about the article she wrote for The Atlantic, "To Be Both Midwestern and Hmong."
