Alcoholics Anonymous and other support programs have worked for many people to overcome alcohol and substance abuse.
However, 12-step style programs don't work for everyone. And some people with addiction disorders aren't interested — or even avoid — pursuing that kind of treatment. But, there are other options.
It's an issue Dr. Jon Hallberg from the University of Minnesota is dealing with in his own clinic, and he joined All Things Considered host Tom Crann to discuss it.
