I-35E closure tops Twin Cities weekend road woes

No need to agonize this weekend about the 45 mph speed limit on that stretch of Interstate 35E south of downtown St. Paul. It will be closed.

Despite some initial confusion from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the agency on Friday confirmed the I-35E closure this weekend. It'll be the biggest hassle but not the only one. Here's your guide.

The road closes between Interstate 94 and Shepard Road starting at 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday. The Ayd Mill Road ramp to southbound I-35E and the northbound I-35E ramp to Ayd Mill Road remain closed until late September. The Randolph Ave. bridge is also closed through late-September.

Interstate 694, Fridley, New Brighton

Eastbound I-694 will close from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday between Minnesota Highway 252 and Interstate 35W. Drivers should also prepare for more in the coming weeks.

There will also be four more weekend closures, one more eastbound and three westbound.

Minnesota Highway 100, St. Louis Park

Of course. Southbound Highway 100 closes at 10 p.m. Friday between Interstate 394 and 70th Street. It's expected to reopen 10 p.m. Saturday. Also, the 77th Street bridge over Highway 100 is closed to motorists until Sept 21. The bridge is open to pedestrians.
