UND to retain all 20 sports currently offered by school

University of North Dakota President Mark Kennedy says the school will continue to sponsor 20 sports.

The Grand Forks school in April announced it was cutting men's golf and baseball from its athletic offerings due to state budget cuts.

UND in August reinstated men's golf after the program secured the necessary $144,400 in funding for the fiscal years 2017 and 2018. But Kennedy that month asked a committee to examine the school's overall athletics program, including number of sports and the cost of the programs.

Kennedy says the committee this week recommended retaining all 20 sports currently offered, and he's going along with that.

The decision does not reinstate the baseball program. And Kennedy says the long-term fate of the golf program will depend on fundraising.
